HOME, Inc. Launches Online Homebuyer Certification Program

HOME, Inc. has announced the launch of eHome, an online education course that helps homebuyers realize the dream of owning their own home.

eHome is an online education program provided in partnership with eHome America, which works closely with certified counseling agencies to help homebuyers and homeowners.

“Home mortgages are increasingly reserved for those have stellar credit,” said Pam Carmichael, executive director of HOME Inc.  “Unfortunately, that is a shrinking segment of Iowans. eHome provides potential homebuyers an opportunity to become certified, demonstrating that they understand the risks and rewards of owning a home.  This certification is accepted by many mortgage lenders that require homebuyer education prior to obtaining a mortgage.”

The eight-hour, online course covers a number of topics including:

  • Are You Ready To Buy A Home
  • Managing Your Money
  • Understanding Credit
  • Getting A Mortgage Loan
  • Shopping For A Home
  • Keeping Your Home and Managing Your Finances

The course can be completed at the homebuyers own pace with ability to log-in and out as schedules permit.  The cost to complete the course is $99.

“Studies have demonstrated, and our own experience supports, that pre-purchase counseling significantly decreases loan default and unnecessary debt accumulation,” Carmichael said. “eHome assists homebuyers get the knowledge they need to purchase and keep their homes.”

Homebuyers are encouraged to complete this course early in the purchase process so they have the tools necessary to navigate the homebuyer experience, determine the best financial decisions for their household, avoid pitfalls, and make the buying process as smooth as possible.
